Hridoy’s Explosive 71 Not Out Propels Mohammedan to Top

-

Tawhid Hridoy showcased an outstanding unbeaten half-century to lead Mohammedan Sporting Club to the top of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2025-26 standings with a dominant nine-wicket triumph over Agrani Bank Cricket Club at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday. Hridoy’s explosive innings of 71 not out came off just 24 deliveries, including 10 boundaries and four maximums, with his fifty coming in a mere 17 balls, ranking as the second-quickest by a Bangladeshi player in List A cricket behind Parvez Emon’s 15-ball feat. Mohammad Naim supported him well with an unbeaten 39 as Mohammedan chased down Agrani Bank’s target of 133 runs in only 11.3 overs.

In the bowling department, Mohammad Saifuddin and Mushfik Hasan wreaked havoc on Agrani Bank’s batting lineup, grabbing figures of 4-18 and 4-37 respectively, after Mohammedan opted to field first. With this victory, Mohammedan now stands at 10 points from six matches, tied with Prime Bank Cricket Club, who faced their first loss of the season against Abahani. Mohammedan claimed the top spot in the standings due to their superior net run rate of +2.625 compared to Prime Bank’s +0.678.

Over at BKSP-3, Jaker Ali Anik hammered a spectacular 133 off 103 deliveries, featuring 10 fours and nine sixes, while Mahidul Islam Ankon contributed 75 runs as Abahani set a challenging total of 341-9 after being put in to bat. Although Prime Bank had a solid start with a 70-run opening partnership between Shahadat Hossain Dipu (34) and Azizul Hakim Tamim (30), they lost momentum and were bowled out for 235 in 45.3 overs. Shamim Hossain top-scored with 51 off 46 balls. Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby scalped 3 wickets, and Rakibul Hasan and Mosaddek Hossain picked up two wickets each as Abahani secured their fourth consecutive win following two initial losses.

In other matches, Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club clinched their first win of the season by a narrow one-run margin over Brothers Union at the ULAB Cricket Ground. Legends of Rupganj secured their fourth victory of the campaign by defeating Dhaka Leopards by two runs at BKSP-4, while Bashundhara Strikers bounced back from back-to-back defeats by triumphing over City Club by one wicket at the Bashundhara Sports Complex. At the Cricketers Academy, Gazi Group Cricketers halted their three-match losing streak with a 36-run victory against Gulshan Cricket Club.
