Liakat Ali Chowdhury has been chosen as the vice-chairman of Al-Arafah Islami Bank PLC. The decision was made during the bank’s 464th (emergency) board of directors meeting on Thursday, as per an official statement. Hailing from the ship-breaking industry in Bangladesh, Liakat is a prominent figure known for his business acumen.
Drawing on his vast industry knowledge and forward-thinking approach, Liakat has effectively overseen enterprises in diverse sectors such as ship breaking, real estate, oxygen production, and finance. Presently, he holds positions as the managing partner of Asadi Steel Enterprise and Jamuna Ship Breakers (Ship Recycling Industry), as well as the managing director of Bangladesh Ship Breaking Limited and L&M Builders (Pvt) Limited.
Additionally, Liakat serves as a director at the Chittagong Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce & Industry, owns Regal Oxygen, co-founded Southern University, and sits on the advisory council of the Bangladesh Ship Breakers and Recyclers Association. Apart from his business involvements, he actively participates in various national and international business, social, and professional bodies.
