“Milon: Traditional Education System Fails Job Market”

-

The Minister of Education, ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon, addressed the issue of escalating unemployment today, attributing it to the inadequacies of the country’s traditional education system in meeting the demands of the job market. Milon emphasized that education should be geared towards reducing unemployment by producing skilled individuals. His comments were made during a discussion event commemorating Language Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day at the Primary Teachers’ Training Institute in Mirpur, organized by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.

Milon highlighted the disparity between the current education system and the requirements of the job market, stressing the need for a restructuring to equip students with the necessary skills and capabilities. He emphasized the importance of aligning educational offerings with the actual needs of the workforce rather than merely expanding academic institutions and subjects. The Minister outlined the plan to revamp the education system to focus on employment, skills, and relevance to current times.

Regarding language, Milon underscored the significance of Bangla as the mother tongue and primary language, emphasizing its role in shaping thoughts, dreams, and emotions. He also emphasized the importance of linguistic proficiency, including English as a secondary language, in maintaining competitiveness on a global scale. Milon praised Bangladesh’s efforts in preserving Bangla as one of the most widely spoken languages globally and pledged to support the preservation and development of ethnic minority languages within the country.

State Minister for Primary and Mass Education, Bobby Hajjaj, echoed the importance of establishing a solid educational foundation for the nation’s future. He vowed to enforce a strict “zero tolerance” policy against corruption within all departments under the education ministry, ensuring transparency and accountability. Hajjaj highlighted the pivotal role of the education ministry in laying the groundwork for sustainable development and emphasized the need to enhance quality in curriculum, classroom instruction, and overall educational consistency.

To improve the quality of education, Hajjaj stressed the necessity of fostering coordination among Bangla medium, English medium, technical, and madrasa education streams. The event, presided over by Primary and Mass Education Secretary Abu Taher Md Masud Rana, was attended by Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education Abu Noor Md Shamsuzzaman, senior officials, teachers, students, and guardians.
