The Convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and Opposition Chief Whip, Nahid Islam, emphasized the importance of establishing a transparent and welfare-oriented government to honor the heroes of the Liberation War. In a statement ahead of the upcoming Independence and National Day celebrations, Nahid paid tribute to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War and the women who endured hardships during that period.
Expressing deep respect and appreciation, Nahid commemorated the courageous martyrs of the historic Liberation War, whose ultimate sacrifices paved the way for the creation of an independent and sovereign Bangladesh. He also extended his greetings to Bangladeshis residing both domestically and internationally.
Nahid underscored that the independence gained in 1971 signified more than just territorial liberation; it symbolized a commitment to constructing a society founded on principles of justice, equality, democracy, and human dignity. However, he noted that this commitment has not been entirely fulfilled to date.
According to Nahid, Bangladesh’s democratic progression has frequently encountered disruptions due to autocratic regimes and authoritarianism, along with endeavors to undermine the nation’s sovereignty and subject it to external influences. Nevertheless, he highlighted the resilience of the Bangladeshi people in safeguarding their rights, honor, and liberty.
On the occasion of Independence Day, NCP leaders reaffirmed their dedication to fostering a responsible, equitable, and inclusive governance structure. Nahid offered prayers for the country’s peace and prosperity, as well as for the eternal peace of the martyrs’ souls.
