National Film Award-winning filmmaker Shahnewaz Kakoli is currently undergoing an extended medical treatment after experiencing a stroke, leading to a significant financial burden on her family. Her spouse, actor Pran Roy, revealed that he had to sell his personal vehicle to contribute towards covering the extensive medical expenses. Despite this sacrifice, the financial obligations remain daunting.
Pran Roy mentioned that the daily cost of Kakoli’s treatment exceeds Tk 8,000. The stroke has resulted in partial paralysis on one side of her face, affecting her speech. He expressed some positive developments in her condition, stating that she can now independently eat and, with assistance, sit up. Kakoli initially fell ill in October last year, leading to a hospitalization where a stroke was confirmed by medical professionals. Following two months of treatment, she briefly returned home but was readmitted on February 1 this year due to complications.
Currently, Kakoli is undergoing treatment at the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP), where she continues to receive specialized care and therapy for her recovery journey.
