The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has lengthened the submission deadline for proposals to produce full-length and short films under the government grant scheme for the fiscal year 2025–26. Interested filmmakers now have until April 1 to submit their complete package proposals, which include the story, screenplay, and overall production plan. The extension was announced by Mahfuza Akhter, the Joint Secretary of the ministry.
Previously, the deadline for submitting proposals was March 1. The ministry had called for proposals from producers, directors, filmmakers, film personalities, professional institutions, writers, and screenwriters to select stories and screenplays. A total of 189 proposals for full-length films and 140 proposals for short films have been received in three phases.
Officials are optimistic that this deadline extension will be the final one and anticipate receiving the desired number of proposals for both film categories within the extended timeframe. To support the growth of the film industry and nurture talent and creativity, the ministry plans to award government grants to 32 films in the upcoming fiscal year, including 12 full-length films and 20 short films.
Applicants must provide a complete package proposal, including one original copy and 12 sets for full-length films, with the same requirement applicable to short films. Industry experts believe that the extended deadline could lead to increased competition for the grants. With the extra time available, filmmakers and producers are expected to submit more detailed and well-organized proposals, potentially enhancing the overall quality of submissions and making the final selection process more competitive.
