The Minister of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, affirmed yesterday that the local government election would proceed as scheduled following the current regulations. Speaking to journalists at the Nayapaltan central office of the party, Fakhrul emphasized that there would be no delay in the local government elections, underscoring their importance.
Regarding the selection of candidates for the reserved seats for women, Fakhrul stated that preference would be given to individuals closely connected with the community and actively involved in party affairs. Responding to queries about the opening of Awami League offices, he highlighted that their operations, deemed illegal, would be enforced as such.
Fakhrul’s visit to the BNP’s Nayapaltan central office marked his first since the party’s significant victory in the 13th parliamentary election on February 12. Upon his arrival, party leaders and supporters greeted him with floral tributes at the entrance. Following a 45-minute stay at the office, Fakhrul departed for the Secretariat.
