Apple has unveiled a fresh line of monitors tailored for Mac users, debuting an upgraded Studio Display alongside a brand-new premium model known as Studio Display XDR. Both monitors boast 27-inch 5K screens, 12MP Centre Stage cameras with Desk View capability, professional-grade three-microphone arrays, six-speaker sound systems with Spatial Audio, and Thunderbolt 5 connectivity. Pre-orders commence on March 4, with availability starting on March 11.
The revamped Studio Display enhances its predecessor with a 27-inch 5K Retina screen offering over 14 million pixels, 600 nits of brightness, and P3 wide color support. The 12MP Centre Stage camera now incorporates Desk View, which displays both the user and a top-down view of their desk simultaneously during video calls.
The six-speaker sound system showcases four force-canceling woofers that deliver 30% deeper bass compared to the previous generation, along with two high-performance tweeters. Thunderbolt 5 connectivity equips two ports, enabling users to daisy-chain up to four monitors or connect high-speed peripherals. Two extra USB-C ports are accessible for additional devices.
Included with the display is a Thunderbolt 5 Pro cable that provides up to 96W of charging power, ample for fast-charging a 14-inch MacBook Pro. The monitor is offered with standard or nano-texture glass and can be customized with a tilt-adjustable stand, a tilt- and height-adjustable stand, or a VESA mount adapter. Prices begin at $1,599.
The all-new Studio Display XDR caters to professional users in need of cutting-edge display technology. It showcases a 27-inch 5K Retina XDR display with a mini-LED backlight and 2,304 local dimming zones, delivering up to 1,000 nits of SDR brightness and 2,000 nits of peak HDR brightness with a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio.
Supporting both P3 and Adobe RGB wide color gamuts, the display achieves over 80% Rec. 2020 coverage for HDR video editing. A 120Hz refresh rate ensures seamless motion, with Adaptive Sync accommodating variable refresh rates between 47Hz and 120Hz for gaming and video playback.
Apple has introduced DICOM medical imaging presets and a Medical Imaging Calibrator to assist diagnostic radiology workflows, pending FDA approval. The display features the same camera and audio system as the standard Studio Display, alongside Thunderbolt 5 connectivity and up to 140W of charging power through the bundled cable.
Studio Display XDR is equipped with a tilt- and height-adjustable stand incorporating a counterbalancing arm, with an optional VESA mount adapter offered. It replaces the Pro Display XDR and starts at $3,299.
