A film centered on the legendary rock band Bon Jovi is currently in the works at Universal Pictures. The studio successfully acquired the project through a competitive bidding process and will support the upcoming biopic focusing on the band famous for their hits like “Livin’ on a Prayer,” “You Give Love a Bad Name”, and “It’s My Life”. The script for the film is being crafted by Cody Brotter, known for his work on the upcoming thriller “Killing Satoshi,” featuring Pete Davidson and Casey Affleck.
As of now, no director has been assigned to the project, and casting choices for the band members have not been revealed. Bon Jovi, established in 1983, was initially composed of frontman Jon Bon Jovi, keyboardist David Bryan, and drummer Tico Torres, who continue to be core members. Former bandmates include guitarist Richie Sambora, who departed in 2013, and bassist Alec John Such, who left in 1994 and passed away in 2022.
The band has been honored with inductions into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. It is uncertain which era of the band’s journey the film will highlight or if it will focus on a specific period or offer a broader narrative.
The production will be overseen by Kevin J Walsh and Gotham Chopra from Religion of Sports, with Jacqueline Garell managing development for Universal Pictures. Music biopics have seen considerable success at the box office in recent times, with hits like “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Elvis,” and “Bob Marley: One Love”. Nonetheless, not all music biopics have fared well, as seen with titles like “Back to Black”.
Numerous music-related films are currently in the works, including “Michael,” slated for release next year. In addition, director Sam Mendes is actively involved in creating four interconnected films centered around The Beatles.
