Prime Minister Urges Swift Action from City Administrators

-

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has requested the administrators of the recently appointed city corporations to develop action plans within a week by identifying key issues and challenges in their respective cities. Md Abdus Salam, the Administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation, shared this news with journalists at the Secretariat, mentioning that the directive was given during a meeting with the Prime Minister after assuming office.

The government published a gazette notification on Monday naming administrators for the six city corporations. Abdus Salam explained that they were assigned by the Prime Minister to tackle the longstanding inactivity in city corporations due to the absence of elections. Additionally, they were mandated to be proactive in preventing dengue outbreaks and prioritize mosquito control efforts.

Emphasizing the significance of developing environmentally friendly and sanitary cities, Abdus Salam stated, “We will engage with administrative personnel at the city corporations and initiate groundwork.” Similarly, Khulna City Corporation Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju mentioned that the Prime Minister has set a six-month target to establish cities that are clean, green, and free from mosquitoes.
