After proposing the motion, opposition leader and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman criticized the government’s management of the fuel shortage and questioned the reliability of its statements. Deputy Speaker Kayser Kamal explained that due to the current discussion on the president’s address, the adjournment motion could not be entertained as per the rules. The topic raised in the notice could be deliberated without suspending the session since the Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources had already addressed the matter under Rule 300. Shafiqur expressed dissatisfaction with the minister’s statement, highlighting the discrepancy between the government’s claims and the actual situation. He stressed the importance of an open discussion in Parliament for sharing accurate information and collective responsibility. Shafiqur appealed to the Speaker not to dismiss the issue outright and suggested scheduling a time for a thorough discussion in the upcoming days. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed intervened, proposing that a discussion could proceed within the session without adjourning, citing past instances where adjournment motions were used to disrupt proceedings. He recommended a brief discussion under Rule 68 instead of a suspension.
