“Dhaka University Metro Station to Close During Book Fair Opening”

-

The Dhaka University metro rail station is set to be closed for two hours today in light of the inauguration of the Amar Ekushey Book Fair. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will be the chief guest at the month-long fair’s opening ceremony at 2:00pm.

As per an announcement from Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), the station will be shut down from 1:30pm to 3:30pm for enhanced security measures during the event. DMTCL officials have verified that train services, as well as passenger entry and exit at the Dhaka University station, will be halted throughout this designated time.

Bangla Academy had previously submitted a formal request to DMTCL on February 24, seeking the temporary closure of the station for security reasons during the inaugural function. The request emphasized the fair’s schedule from February 26 to March 15 at the Bangla Academy premises and Suhrawardy Udyan, stating the need for extra precautions to ensure the prime minister’s safety on the opening day.

Throughout the two-hour window, no passengers will have access to the station, and metro trains will not make stops there. Nevertheless, metro rail services will continue normal operations at all other stations, authorities have confirmed.
