Mushfiqur Rahim and Taijul Islam showcased their exceptional skills for Mohammedan Sporting Club as they dominated Gulshan Cricket Club with a resounding 237-run victory in their seventh-round clash of the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2025-26 at BKSP-4 on Saturday. This stellar performance propelled their team to the top of the points table just before the Eid break.
Both players played crucial roles in Bangladesh’s recent Test series success against Pakistan and seamlessly carried forward their impressive form into the DPL competition. Mushfiqur’s aggressive knock of 72 runs off 62 deliveries, supported by Tawhid Hridoy’s 86 and Afif Hossain’s 55, powered Mohammedan to a formidable total of 345 for nine in their allotted 50 overs after opting to bat first.
Taijul excelled with the ball, claiming an impressive 5-26, while left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam contributed with 4-37, dismantling Gulshan’s batting lineup to a mere 108 all out in 33.2 overs, securing Mohammedan’s sixth win in seven matches.
In a parallel encounter, Najmul Hossain Shanto made a significant impact by scoring an unbeaten 108 off 90 balls, including seven boundaries and as many sixes, guiding Abahani Limited to a convincing nine-wicket triumph over Agrani Bank Cricket Club at the ULAB Cricket Ground. Despite losing opener Jishan Alam early, Shanto’s unbeaten 171-run partnership with Mahidul Islam Ankon (56 not out) ensured a smooth victory in just 31.4 overs, elevating them to second place with 10 points from seven games.
Abahani’s disciplined bowling effort restricted Agrani Bank to 178 all out in 42.1 overs after opting to bat first, with Nasir Hossain top-scoring with 56 off 58 balls for Agrani Bank.
Meanwhile, the most surprising result of the day unfolded at BKSP, where City Club stunned Prime Bank Cricket Club with a 19-run win, marking Prime Bank’s second consecutive defeat following a five-game winning streak.
City Club’s victory was spearheaded by Anamul Haque Anam’s unbeaten century (103 off 97 balls), propelling them to 266 for seven after being put in to bat. Despite Azizul Hakim Tamim’s valiant 95 off 98 balls for Prime Bank, pacer Enamul Hoque Ashik’s excellent 5-41 restricted them to 247 for nine. This win marked City Club’s fourth triumph of the season, propelling them to sixth place in the standings.
In other matches of the day, Irfan Shukkur’s unbeaten 127 off 75 deliveries guided Legends of Rupganj to a comfortable seven-wicket win over Gazi Group Cricketers in Mirpur. Fazle Mahmud’s impressive 132 off 113 balls led Bashundhara Strikers to a narrow seven-run victory over Brothers Union in a high-scoring encounter at BKSP-3.
At the Bashundhara Sports Complex, Md Abdullah’s unbeaten century (100 off 128 balls) was not enough as Dhaka Leopards secured a 30-run win over Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club.
