“Millions at Risk: France Reports Major Security Breach”

-

France has reported a security breach at the national agency responsible for managing citizens’ identity documents, such as national IDs, passports, and immigration papers. The breach may have exposed personal information of millions of individuals. The agency, known as Agence Nationale des Titres Sécurisés (ANTS), disclosed that the stolen data may include names, dates and places of birth, addresses, and phone numbers. ANTS is currently investigating the breach and notifying those affected. The breach was detected on April 15, but the number of affected individuals has not been specified. However, a hacker claims to possess a database with 19 million records of stolen data and has advertised it on a hacking forum. The hacker’s post aligns with the type of information mentioned in ANTS’s official announcement. The French government has not attributed the attack or confirmed if the stolen data has been sold. This breach is considered one of the most significant breaches of personal data held by the government in recent years in France. The incident raises concerns about identity fraud and document forgery due to the sensitive nature of the compromised information within the agency responsible for managing identity documents in the country.
