Google announced the launch of a new Gemini app for Mac, providing Mac users with expanded access to its AI assistant on Apple’s desktop platform. This move aligns Google with competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic, who already offer Mac applications for their AI technologies.
Through a blog post, Google shared that users can easily open Gemini on their Mac by using the shortcut Option + Space, enabling them to utilize the service seamlessly while working on other tasks. The app is designed to analyze content visible on the user’s screen, including local files. For instance, users examining a complex chart can request Gemini to identify the top three key points and receive a concise summary.
Additionally, Google highlighted that the app supports image generation using Nano Banana and video generation through Veo. The native macOS app is now accessible worldwide for Gemini users operating macOS 15 or above and can be downloaded directly from Google’s Gemini website.
