“Islami Bank Bangladesh Promotes Bangla QR Codes”

Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC hosted a discussion session at a local hotel in Dhaka, aiming to promote the adoption of Bangla QR codes in religious institutions as part of the initiative to foster a cashless economy in Bangladesh. The event featured prominent Islamic scholars, including Mohammad Mohibbullahil Baqee, the Director General of the Islamic Foundation Bangladesh, who graced the occasion as the chief guest. In his address, Mohibbullahil emphasized the significance of integrating religious establishments into the evolving landscape of financial transactions driven by technological progress. He highlighted the benefits of leveraging user-friendly digital payment solutions like Bangla QR to enhance the transparency, security, and efficiency of financial dealings within religious entities.

Encouraging Islamic scholars and religious leaders to play an active role in advancing the vision of a cashless Bangladesh, Mohammad Zahir Hussain, the Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank and the representative of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC’s board of directors, shared insights as a special guest. Zahir underscored the country’s ongoing digital transformation and stressed the pivotal role of expanding digital transactions to modernize and democratize the financial ecosystem. He outlined how integrating Bangla QR into religious institutions could facilitate broader participation in digital transactions, aligning with the nation’s digital agenda.

The program was chaired by Md Altaf Hossain, the acting Managing Director of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC. Additionally, key figures such as Shamsuddin Zia, Chairman of the Shariah Supervisory Committee of the bank; Shah Muhammad Waliullah, member of the Bangladesh Bank Shariah Supervisory Board; and Mohammad Zakir Hossain, additional director of the Islami Banking Regulations and Policy Department of Bangladesh Bank, shared their perspectives during the session. The event was attended by Mohammed Jamal Uddin Mazumder and M Kamal Uddin Jasim, both serving as Additional Managing Directors, alongside members of the Shariah Supervisory Committee and senior executives from the bank.
