A new movie titled “Manushtike Dekh” (See the Person) directed by Gazi Rakayet is scheduled to premiere in theaters nationwide on April 14, coinciding with Pahela Baishakh, the Bengali New Year celebration.
Rakayet, known for his acclaimed works “Mrittika Maya” (2013) and “Gor” (2020), which garnered praise at various international film festivals and received accolades at the National Film Awards, is now bringing his third feature film to the audience. “Manushtike Dekh” aims to shed light on cerebral palsy, challenging societal stereotypes and misunderstandings surrounding individuals with disabilities, with the goal of fostering empathy and awareness.
Funded by the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP), the movie is based on a screenplay by British writer Elspeth Waldie, adapted into Bangla by producer Humayun Farid. Rakayet and Farid collaborated on editing the script and crafting the dialogues.
The recently unveiled trailer teases the narrative, revolving around Farida, a disabled journalist running an organization supporting children with disabilities. Her life intertwines with Firoz, a wealthy man who develops feelings for her. Simultaneously, Abdul, another person with a disability, gets caught up in criminal activities involuntarily and is wrongfully accused and arrested. Farida embarks on a quest to clear Abdul’s name, facing obstacles from Firoz’s disapproving father.
The movie boasts a diverse cast including Rashna Sharmin Camey, Tahmid Arefin Haque, Tariq Anam Khan, Mili Bashar, Mamunur Rashid, Rahmat Ali, Shatabdi Wadud, Lara Lotus, Ehsanur Rahman, Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed, Rajib Saleheen, Sharmimala, Mrinal Dutta, Ananda Khaled, and Tahmina Mona, with CRP founder Valerie Ann Taylor making a special appearance in the film.
