A Dhaka court has ordered a five-day remand for Lt Gen (retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury, a key figure in the army-backed caretaker government, in a case related to human trafficking and document forgery reported at Paltan Model Police Station. The case was initiated on September 3, 2024, by the owner of Afia Overseas against 103 individuals, which includes former minister Imran Ahmed.
The decision for the remand was made by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junaid after Masud was presented before the court by detectives seeking a five-day remand, as confirmed by a sub-inspector at the court. Masud was taken into custody earlier today from his residence at Dhaka’s Baridhara DOHS by a detective team.
Previously, Masud held the position of general officer commanding (GOC) of 9 Infantry Division in Savar during the state of emergency declared on January 11, 2007. He later assumed the role of chief coordinator of the National Coordination Committee on Serious Crimes and Corruption, was promoted to lieutenant general, and was assigned to the National Defence College on June 2, 2008. Subsequently, he was reassigned to the foreign ministry and posted to the Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra on June 8, 2008.
