Three individuals lost their lives in a tragic collision involving a pickup van and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Moulvibazar during the early hours of the day. The incident occurred at approximately 2:00 am in the vicinity of Shahpur Cinema Hall near the end of Bhairabbazar in Sreemangal upazila, close to the entrance of Moulvibazar on the Dhaka–Sylhet Regional Highway.
Moulvibazar Model Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Md Saiful Islam, disclosed that the deceased were identified as Alinur, the auto-rickshaw driver, along with passengers Rubel Mia and Rehan Mia. Eyewitnesses and authorities mentioned that the collision transpired when a pickup van bound for Sreemangal collided head-on with the CNG auto-rickshaw traveling in the opposite direction.
Tragically, Alinur and Rubel lost their lives at the scene, as confirmed by the OC. Following the incident report, a team from the fire service promptly responded to the location, with passenger Rehan Mia being rushed to Moulvibazar 250-bed Sadar General Hospital for medical attention.
Dr. Arif Ahmed, an emergency department physician at Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital, sadly verified that Rehan passed away at the medical facility. The police retrieved the bodies and transferred them to the morgue at Sadar Hospital for further procedures, while an investigation is ongoing to ascertain the precise cause of the collision.
Meanwhile, it was noted that the driver of the pickup van absconded from the scene post-accident, as per the information provided by the OC.
