After a meeting between the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) and rebel clubs, a potential start date for the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) was suggested, seemingly resolving the club crisis. However, two clubs, Legends of Rupganj and Brothers Union, did not participate in the meeting. Rupganj’s representative, Lutfar Rahman Badal, expressed concerns about rushing into the league without proper preparation, citing various factors like the country’s situation and financial issues that need consideration before a decision can be made.
Badal questioned the sudden scheduling of the league, emphasizing the importance of following cricket windows and criticized the past boards for their hasty approaches. He highlighted the need for policy-making capabilities within the cricket board to ensure effective governance. The possibility of relegation due to non-participation as per DPL bylaws was also mentioned.
Brothers Union officials have yet to confirm their stance on participating in the league, stating that their decision will be communicated to the board. CCDM officials stated they were unaware of any club’s reluctance to participate, while representatives from other clubs like Mohammedan and Dhanmondi Sports Club expressed readiness for the league with adequate time before the proposed start date.
Rupganj’s previous election boycott and allegations of irregularities were brought up, with sources suggesting external pressures influenced the decision. Reports also indicated contract disputes within Rupganj for the upcoming season. Despite expectations of resolving the club crisis post the Bulbul-led board’s removal, additional issues need addressing before proceeding with the DPL.
