“Meu,” the latest original production by Chorki, is scheduled for its debut at midnight on March 4 under the direction of Atiq Zaman. The film delves into the delicate yet enduring connections within a family, prompting a thought-provoking inquiry into the depth of care individuals have for the animals reliant on them.
At its essence, “Meu” unfolds a domestic setting where affection, resentment, duty, and unspoken reliance intersect. The inclusion of a pet cat introduces a unique emotional layer, serving as both a spectator and a trigger in the family’s evolving dynamics. The director believes that the film’s true potency lies in its depiction of intricate familial dynamics; the rifts, reconciliations, and concealed sentiments that mold daily life.
The ensemble cast features Sadia Ayman, Afsana Mimi, Afzal Hossain, Ishtiaq Ahmed Rumel, Rakib Hossain Evon, and Azizul Hakim. Mimi takes on the role of the family matriarch, describing her character as the serene authority that binds the household together. “In every family, the mother embodies a position of power,” she expressed.
Infusing authenticity into the storyline is Sadia Ayman’s real-life feline companion, Alu, making an appearance in the film. The actress disclosed that the narrative resonates with her own childhood recollection of a cherished cat named Meu, who vanished.
The script for the film is penned by Md Alam Bhuiyan, with the screenplay and dialogues crafted collaboratively with director Atiq Zaman.
