Bluesky announced on March 9 the transition of its CEO, Jay Graber, from the company’s top leadership position to a newly created role as Chief Innovation Officer. Graber highlighted in a blog post about the leadership shift that as Bluesky has evolved, the need for an experienced operator focused on scaling and execution has emerged. She expressed her intention to concentrate on advancing the platform’s technology and exploring fresh concepts for the network.
The growth of Bluesky in recent years has been notable, especially after Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter in 2022, now rebranded as X, which led some users to explore other options. The platform has positioned itself as a decentralized social network and a competitor to services like Threads.
Graber, who has served as Bluesky’s CEO since 2021, will be temporarily replaced by Toni Schneider. Schneider, the former CEO of Automattic and a partner at True Ventures, will take the helm as the company’s board seeks a permanent chief executive. Notably, both Automattic and True Ventures have investments in Bluesky.
According to the company, Bluesky currently boasts a user base exceeding 43 million.
