Bangladesh’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Prep Hit by Losses

-

Bangladesh’s preparation for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup hit a snag with back-to-back losses to Scotland and the Netherlands in the ongoing tri-nation series in Edinburgh. This has raised concerns about their upcoming group stage matches against Australia, South Africa, and India.

Despite having a strong record against Scotland and the Netherlands in previous encounters, Bangladesh suffered defeats in less than 24 hours, ending their unbeaten streak. The team’s inconsistency in posting big scores and chasing targets over 150 has been a recurring issue.

Captain Nigar Sultana Joty showcased strong performances with the bat, but the rest of the batting lineup struggled to make an impact. The bowlers are still adapting to the conditions and pitches in Edinburgh.

While batting coach Nasiruddin Faruque remains optimistic, he acknowledged the defeats as valuable learning experiences for the team. He emphasized the importance of solid opening partnerships and making better use of the powerplay overs.

Faruque highlighted the challenging weather conditions at the Grange Cricket Club Ground, citing strong winds and low temperatures as factors affecting the matches. He stressed the need for improved performance in the death overs and powerplay phases.

Bangladesh will face Scotland and the Netherlands in their remaining matches before the World Cup opener against the Netherlands on June 14. With limited time to address their weaknesses, the team is focused on regaining form and making necessary adjustments before the prestigious tournament begins.
