Bangladesh Commits to Diplomatic Progress

-

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam emphasized that Bangladesh, as a democratic nation with a fresh mandate, is committed to fostering communication and friendships with all nations while upholding dignity and mutual respect. She expressed confidence in the mandate given by the people, stating, “Our posture was not firm in the past, but now with the people’s mandate, we will progress confidently.”

Addressing the media at the foreign ministry, the state minister outlined that the government’s foreign policy would be guided by the principle of “Bangladesh first,” prioritizing national interests and the welfare of its citizens in all international interactions. She affirmed the government’s dedication to fulfilling the election manifesto through coordinated diplomatic efforts, with the foreign ministry playing a crucial role in this endeavor.

Regarding visa restrictions imposed by certain countries, Shama acknowledged the challenges and assured that the ministry is actively engaged in resolving these issues through diplomatic means. In response to inquiries about former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India and the associated diplomatic communications, she mentioned that the matter is still being processed and will be reviewed by the ministry.

Highlighting that it is early in their responsibilities, she stated, “The process is ongoing and will continue.” When asked about the interim government’s stance on deploying Bangladeshi troops to Gaza, Shama clarified that the matter has not yet been deliberated at the political level. She affirmed that such decisions will be thoroughly discussed and made in due time.

On the topic of relationships with India, China, and the United States, Shama emphasized that Bangladesh faces challenges with all countries and intends to address them through both bilateral and multilateral engagements. She reiterated that the country will maintain ties with all states and governments, with a primary focus on safeguarding the interests of Bangladesh and its people.
