Meta has unveiled two new smart glasses tailored for individuals who need prescription lenses on March 31. These glasses will hit the market starting April 14, accessible through optical retailers in the United States and select international regions, with prices kicking off at $499. The release comprises two styles: Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer Optics (Gen 2), flaunting a rectangular shape available in various sizes, and Ray-Ban Meta Scriber (Gen 2), offering a more rounded option.
The company states that these glasses are crafted for prolonged use, incorporating adjustable elements like flexible hinges, interchangeable nose pads, and customizable temple tips to enhance comfort. Developed in partnership with Ray-Ban, the new models aim to accommodate a broader spectrum of prescriptions and cater to individuals reliant on glasses throughout the day.
In conjunction with the new models, Meta is enhancing the color and lens variations across its current smart eyewear range, including updates to Ray-Ban and Oakley frames.
Furthermore, Meta is augmenting the capabilities of its smart glasses through fresh artificial intelligence (AI) features. Users will now be able to log their meals using voice commands or images, with AI-driven insights intended to monitor nutrition patterns over time.
Enhanced functionalities also include hands-free summaries of messages on WhatsApp, empowering users to request updates from group conversations or retrieve specific details through voice prompts. Meta assures that these interactions are processed locally on the device and safeguarded by end-to-end encryption.
An additional enhancement introduces what Meta terms “neural handwriting,” enabling users to compose messages by tracing letters on a surface with their finger. This feature is tailored to facilitate discreet communication and will operate across various platforms such as Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and standard messaging services on mobile devices.
