“Seacom Group Chairman Elected President of CCCI”

-

Seacom Group Chairman, Mohammed Amirul Haque, has secured the position of President at the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) for the term spanning 2025-2027. Alongside him, Mohammad Amzad Hossain, the Managing Director of Rising Group, and Mohammad Moshiul Alam (Swapan), Vice-Chairman of the Bangladesh Shipping Agents Association, have been elected as Senior Vice-President and Vice-President, respectively.

The three presidium members were chosen unanimously by the newly elected 24 directors during the inaugural executive meeting held at the World Trade Centre in Chattogram, as stated in a press release from the Chittagong Chamber.

In the recent biennial election of the trade organization, 18 directors from the United Business Forum panel were elected by general voters from the Ordinary Member Group and the Associate Member Group categories. The remaining six director candidates from the Town Association and Trade Group, all from the United Business Forum panel, including Mohammed Amirul, were elected uncontested.

Mohammed Amirul, who has previously held directorial roles at both the Chittagong Chamber and the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), is the Chairman of Seacom Group of Industries and the Managing Director of Premier Cement. Additionally, he holds the position of President at the LPG Operators Association of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Cement Manufacturers Association.

The election for the chamber of the port city saw participation from two panels this year: the United Business Forum led by Amirul Haque and the Sammilito Byaboshayee Parishad led by SM Nurul Haque. Furthermore, 16 independent candidates contested in the Ordinary and Associate groups.

On May 22, a day prior to the election, the Sammilito Byaboshayee Parishad decided to boycott the polls, citing concerns about the legality of the process. Out of a total of 4,001 voters in the Ordinary Group, 1,843 cast their votes, while in the Associate Group, 882 out of 2,764 voters participated in the election.
