Woman in Noakhali Alleges Gang Rape and Torture

-

A woman in Noakhali’s Hatia upazila filed a case yesterday, accusing six named individuals and around 50 to 100 unnamed persons of raping and torturing her. The victim lodged the complaint at the district’s Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, alleging the incident that occurred five days earlier. Following her release from Noakhali General Hospital earlier that day, the victim’s lawyer, Noman Siddiqui, confirmed that the court had acknowledged the complaint.

After a hearing, the court instructed Officer-in-Charge of Hatia Police Station Md Saiful Alam to register the complaint as a regular case and submit an investigation report. Additionally, Noakhali’s Superintendent of Police TM Mosharraf Hossain was directed to ensure the woman’s safety. OC Saiful verified the case filing, while Additional SP Abu Tayyub Md Arif Hossain assured that security measures would be implemented for the victim’s family.

According to the case details, the woman was subjected to rape and torture following her support for a specific candidate in the national election. The primary suspect, Abdur Rahman, along with Emran Hossain and Belal Majhi, reportedly invaded her residence on Friday night after the polls. During the incident, they restrained the victim’s husband, assaulted him, and Rahman proceeded to rape her while the others guarded the premises. The victim, now staying with relatives, expressed fear of returning home and highlighted the accused individuals’ evasion from authorities.

In a previous statement to The Daily Star, the victim recounted that the perpetrators barged into her home, accusing her of supporting a political party and threatening consequences. Subsequently, they physically attacked the couple and later admitted the victim to the local hospital for medical care. Following these events, a General Diary was filed by the police at Hatia Police Station on Sunday, initiating forensic examinations on the victim.
