WhatsApp rolled out a series of new functions on March 26 to enhance user experience, streamline storage management, and improve cross-device compatibility. The update encompasses tools that enable users to efficiently handle storage within individual chats. Users now have the ability to identify and delete large files directly from a conversation without deleting the entire chat history. Moreover, the platform allows users to selectively clear media files while retaining text messages.
In a bid to facilitate device transitions, WhatsApp expanded its chat transfer feature to support movement across various operating systems, such as transferring from iOS to Android. This enhancement aims to simplify device switching while ensuring messages, photos, and videos are preserved. Additionally, WhatsApp now permits users to run dual accounts on a single iOS device, a functionality that was previously exclusive to Android. Users can seamlessly switch between accounts within the app, aided by visual indicators to differentiate between them.
The update also includes sticker recommendations based on emoji input. As users type, the app suggests relevant stickers that can serve as alternatives to traditional emojis. Meta’s artificial intelligence (AI) tools have been integrated into the chat experience, enabling users to edit images before sending them. These features offer options to adjust backgrounds, eliminate unwanted elements, and apply stylistic modifications, according to WhatsApp.
Furthermore, WhatsApp has expanded its writing assistance feature, which generates suggested replies based on the conversation context. The company emphasized that these tools are designed to respect user privacy, though availability may vary by region. The new features are being gradually released and are anticipated to reach a wider user base in the upcoming weeks.
