The United States is set to pull out all of its 1,000 troops from Syria within the next two months, as per reports from US media outlets. This move comes as the Syrian government has expanded its control over the country and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, previously instrumental in combatting Islamic State (IS), have committed to integrating into the national framework, the Wall Street Journal detailed. CBS, referencing unnamed US officials, also covered the withdrawal plan. Recent movements by US forces in Syria, including vacating bases such as Al-Tanf and Al-Shadadi, formerly used in the US-led international coalition’s anti-IS efforts, have preceded this decision. Following Bashar al-Assad’s ousting in late 2024, Washington has established closer ties with Syria’s new leadership and has relocated numerous IS militants from prisons to secure facilities in Iraq.
