Jamaat‑e‑Islami Leader Warns Govt Over Reforms

-

Jamaat‑e‑Islami’s leader Shafiqur Rahman issued a warning to the government, stating that the party will not stay silent if the proposed reforms following the July uprising are not acted upon. Speaking at the launch of the “Clean Dhaka, Green Dhaka” initiative in Mirpur and Kafrul, Rahman emphasized the need for government action to which the opposition would provide full support. He highlighted the significance of the July events, stressing that not participating in the Constitution Reform Council’s oath ceremony would be disrespectful to the uprising.

Rahman reflected on the impact of the July uprising, crediting it for enabling the current political landscape and his role as opposition leader. He stressed the importance of acknowledging and honoring the July events, urging the implementation of reform proposals as a duty of the parliament. Rahman expressed his commitment to contributing positively through parliamentary work and reforms aimed at improving society by addressing various forms of “garbage,” be it physical waste or negative societal attitudes.

Participating in the cleanliness campaign, Rahman conveyed a symbolic message of the party’s commitment to fostering a cleaner and healthier societal environment.
