Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s parents will be able to accompany him on India’s upcoming overseas tours, as confirmed by the cricket board on Sunday. This announcement comes after the 15-year-old cricket prodigy received his first call-up to the senior international team.
Sooryavanshi, who excelled in the recent Indian Premier League and clinched top batting honors, has been included in India’s T20 squad for the tours to Ireland, England, and the Asian Games. Currently, the left-handed opener is in Sri Lanka with the India A squad for a tri-nation series.
Devajit Saikia, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), mentioned, “His father will be traveling to Sri Lanka today. Moreover, if his parents wish to accompany him to England and Ireland, necessary arrangements will be made for their travel, as they are considered his strongest support system.”
India, the reigning T20 world champions, are set to play matches against Ireland on June 26 and 28 in Belfast, followed by a five-match series against England starting on July 1. The Asian Games are scheduled to take place in Japan in September and October.
Sooryavanshi’s exceptional performance in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals, where he emerged as the highest run-scorer with 776 runs, led to his selection. He secured the Orange Cap for this achievement, along with the IPL Most Valuable Player and Emerging Player awards. If he makes his debut for India, he will become the youngest player in the country’s history, surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who debuted at 16 years and 205 days in 1989.
Ajit Agarkar, the chief selector, expressed, “His outstanding performances have made it almost inevitable for us to include him. Like many others who follow T20 cricket in India, we have high expectations of him. I believe he has truly earned his place in the team.”
