Meta to Increase Quest VR Headset Prices Amid Chip Costs

-

Meta has revealed that prices for its Quest virtual reality headsets will be going up due to a worldwide increase in memory chip costs. Starting on April 19th, the 128GB version of the Meta Quest 3S will see a $50 hike to $349.99, while the 256GB model will also go up by $50 to $449.99. Additionally, the Meta Quest 3 will experience a $100 price jump, reaching $599.99.

In a recent blog post, Meta explained that the global rise in the prices of crucial components, specifically memory chips, is impacting various consumer electronics sectors, including VR. The company emphasized that these price adjustments are essential to uphold the quality of hardware, software, and support provided through the Quest platform.

The price adjustments will be applicable to refurbished Meta Quest units as well, while accessory prices will remain unchanged. Meta’s decision to increase prices aligns with other major tech companies such as Samsung, Microsoft, and Sony, who have also raised hardware prices in response to the ongoing RAM shortage.
