Tarique Rahman Reveals Tk 23 Lakh Expenditure in Dhaka‑17 Elections

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman disclosed an expenditure of Tk 23 lakh for the Dhaka‑17 constituency during the 13th National Parliamentary Elections held on February 12. The breakdown of the expenses includes Tk 5.5 lakh for campaign activities, Tk 1.1 lakh for transportation, Tk 1.8 lakh for rallies, and Tk 3.6 lakh for election camp operations. Additionally, payments totaling Tk 9.84 lakh were made to agents and staff, while Tk 66,000 was allocated for accommodation and administrative expenses. Social media campaigning incurred a cost of Tk 50,000.

According to the Representation of the People Order (RPO) of 1972, candidates are allowed to spend up to Tk 25 lakh or Tk 10 per voter, whichever amount is higher. The law mandates that election expenses must be submitted to returning officers within 30 days of the official gazette of results. Furthermore, in accordance with the Conduct of Election Rules from 2008, financial accounts need to be submitted in specified forms along with affidavits, and copies must be sent to the Election Commission via registered post.
