“King’s Brother Arrested for Sharing Govt Papers”

-

The younger brother of King Charles, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, was taken into custody yesterday on suspicion of misconduct in public office for allegedly sharing confidential government papers with Jeffrey Epstein. Celebrating his 66th birthday, Mountbatten-Windsor was apprehended and interrogated by Thames Valley Police detectives, who had been investigating claims of document transmission while he served as a trade envoy.

Thames Valley’s Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright confirmed the initiation of an investigation into the alleged misconduct and assured the public of updates when appropriate. Mountbatten-Windsor, the second son of the late Queen Elizabeth, has consistently denied any misconduct related to Epstein, expressing remorse for their association. However, he has refrained from commenting following the recent disclosure of documents by the US government, with no response from his office to media inquiries.

As the first senior royal to be arrested in this manner, Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest marks a significant scandal during his elder brother’s reign. King Charles acknowledged the situation with deep concern, emphasizing full cooperation with the authorities while maintaining that legal processes must proceed without further comment from him. Media outlets reported the police presence at Mountbatten-Windsor’s residence in Sandringham and a property search in Berkshire, his former dwelling on the Windsor estate.

Although the arrest signifies reasonable suspicion of involvement in an offense, it does not imply guilt. Misconduct in public office, if proven, carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment and is prosecuted in a Crown Court for serious criminal offenses. Notably, the ongoing investigation is unrelated to the legal settlement in 2022 with Virginia Giuffre’s accusations of sexual misconduct, which led to Mountbatten-Windsor’s resignation from royal duties in 2019 and subsequent removal of titles and honors by his brother in October of the same year.
