Hasan Mahmud Leads Kent to Victory with Stellar Debut

-

Hasan Mahmud made an impressive debut for Kent, achieving his best career match figures of 9-101 to lead the team to a commanding 140-run win over Lancashire in the Rothesay County Championship Division Two at Blackpool on Sunday. Just a few days after expressing his excitement about joining English county cricket, the Bangladeshi fast bowler delivered a stellar performance, helping Kent (19 points) defeat Lancashire (3 points) within three days.

Kent successfully defended a challenging target of 424 by bowling out Lancashire for 283. Hasan shone in the second innings, taking 6-69 and bringing his total first-class wickets to 104 in 35 matches. Kent had earlier built on their first-innings score of 178 with a strong 332, with notable contributions from Chris Benjamin (103) and Harry Finch (83). Lancashire’s James Anderson and George Balderson took three wickets each.

Despite Lancashire’s aggressive start in pursuit of a record chase, Hasan made crucial breakthroughs before lunch by dismissing Harry Singh (15) and Josh Bohannon (26). A partnership between Keaton Jennings (61) and Marcus Harris (91*) provided some resistance, but Hasan returned to break the stand and trigger a collapse. He claimed six wickets, including key dismissals of Liam Livingstone and George Balderson, before Kent’s spinners finished off the opposition.

Kent captain Daniel Bell-Drummond praised Hasan’s “world-class” performance, highlighting his crucial role in securing the victory against a strong Lancashire team. Hasan is now set to play against Middlesex at home during the upcoming Canterbury Cricket Week from June 19-22, followed by four more Championship matches in September to end the season.
