The High Court has approved interim bail for Selina Hayat Ivy, the former mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation, in five cases related to the July Uprising, which include four murder charges. The bail was granted by Justices KM Zahid Sarwar and Sheikh Abu Taher in response to five separate petitions submitted by Ivy, who is currently incarcerated.
Despite the bail orders from the High Court, Ivy will remain in custody as the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has halted the implementation of the bail orders issued in November last year for five other cases, as stated by Advocate SM Hridoy Rahman, Ivy’s legal representative.
During the court proceedings, Ivy was represented by senior lawyer Sara Hossain, alongside Advocate Hridoy. Last year, the High Court had released Ivy on bail in five cases, including the murder of Minarul Islam, a garment worker, during the July Uprising. However, the Appellate Division intervened and suspended the bail granted by the High Court for all five cases.
Following this development, Ivy was implicated in five additional cases, four of which involve murder charges and were filed at Fatullah police station, as informed by lawyer Hridoy.
