Foreign leaders visited Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, the head of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and the Leader of the Opposition, to offer their congratulations after he took his oath of office. The Jamaat’s central publicity department released a statement confirming the visits, where the dignitaries individually greeted Dr. Shafiqur and conveyed well wishes on behalf of their governments. The visitors included Tshering Tobgay, the Prime Minister of Bhutan; Seema Malhotra, the UK Minister for the Indo-Pacific; Vikram Misri, the Foreign Secretary of India; Berris Ekinci, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkey; Ahsan Iqbal, the Planning Minister of Pakistan; and Bala Nanda Sharma, the Foreign Minister of Nepal. Discussions during the meetings focused on shared interests, in addition to formal felicitations extended to Dr. Shafiqur for his new position. Also present at the meetings were ATM Azharul Islam, a Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer and lawmaker; Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan, the Assistant Secretary General and Opposition Whip; Saiful Alam Khan Milon, an executive council member and lawmaker; and Prof Mahmudul Hasan, the foreign affairs adviser to the party chief.
