The Finance Minister, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, expressed confidence in the government’s ability to achieve its revenue collection target for the current fiscal year. He mentioned that the National Board of Revenue (NBR) is fully prepared to meet the set target during discussions with the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association and the Saudi Arabia-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry at the NBR headquarters in Agargaon.
Addressing inquiries about the strategy to reach the ambitious revenue goal outlined in the budget, the minister assured that despite no new tax measures being introduced, he believes the revenue authorities are well-equipped to achieve the target.
For the current fiscal year, the government has set the NBR’s revenue collection target at Tk 6.04 lakh crore, following a shortfall of nearly Tk 88,000 crore from the previous fiscal year’s target.

He highlighted the importance of strong industrial performance for economic stability and job creation, stating that ongoing dialogues aim to address industry concerns and enhance productivity.
Furthermore, the minister mentioned the government’s initiatives to explore alternative financing sources in response to the evolving financial landscape. Collaborative efforts with Saudi Arabia are being pursued to expand business opportunities and improve skills training.
The press briefing was attended by Finance Secretary Khairuzzaman Mozumder and acting NBR chairman Ahsan Habib.
