Three individuals lost their lives and six others sustained injuries in separate road accidents on expressways in Shariatpur and Munshiganj yesterday. In Shariatpur, a tragic incident occurred when a Gopalganj-bound Kotalipara Star Express bus collided with a stationary Khan Paribahan coach at Jamaddar intersection on the Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway near the South Plaza of the Padma Bridge. The collision resulted in the death of bus helper Akash Sardar, 31, and supervisor Yunus Mollah, 40. The incident caused traffic disruption as the Star Express bus hit the parked coach from behind, veering onto the divider. Law enforcement officials from the Shibchar Highway Police Station intervened, seizing both vehicles.
In a separate incident in Munshiganj, a 23-year-old trucker’s helper from Jazira upazila in Shariatpur, Shawkat Bepari, lost his life when a Mawa-bound truck collided with a broken-down vehicle near Srinagar Ferry Ghat underpass on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway around 6:00am. Another helper, Md Imran Mondal, 24, sustained injuries and was subsequently referred to Dhaka for medical treatment, according to fire service officials.
