“Ekushey Padak 2026 Celebrates Bangladesh’s Cultural Icons”

The prestigious Ekushey Padak 2026, a top civilian honor in Bangladesh, was awarded at a formal ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the Government of Bangladesh. The event acknowledged exceptional individuals for their remarkable contributions to Bangla language, literature, culture, and the arts.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman graced the ceremony as the chief guest, personally presenting the awards to the recipients. Minister for Cultural Affairs Nitai Roy Chowdhury presided over the program, with the presence of ministers, parliament members, senior officials, and other distinguished guests.

The event commenced with a welcome address by Secretary of Cultural Affairs Mofidur Rahman, followed by the proceedings of the Ekushey Padak Award 2026 led by Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Nasimul Ghani.

Among this year’s Ekushey Padak awardees are Farida Akhtar Babita (Film), Professor Md Abdus Sattar (Fine Arts), Marina Tabassum (Architecture), Ayub Bachchu (Music, posthumous), Arthy Ahmed (Dance), Islam Uddin Palakar (Palagan), Shafik Rehman (Journalism), Professor Dr Mahbubul Alam Majumdar (Education), Tejosh Haldar Josh (Sculpture), and Warfaze (Music Band).

State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmud Khaiyam delivered a congratulatory speech, commending the recipients for enriching Bangladesh’s cultural landscape.

Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury emphasized the significance of Ekushey Padak as a symbol of gratitude towards those who have contributed to the nation’s culture, stating that their creations are vital in preserving the country’s cultural heritage.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman extended his congratulations to the awardees, highlighting the importance of scholars and creative minds in shaping society. He underscored the role of accomplished individuals in fostering prosperity and moral values, emphasizing the government’s commitment to promoting education, research, and cultural endeavors.

The Prime Minister traced the origins of the award, linking it to the spirit of the Language Movement and the recognition of those who have enriched the nation through education, literature, research, and artistic pursuits. He reiterated the government’s dedication to enhancing these fields and expressed hope for the continued global prominence of Bangla language and culture.

The ceremony honored veteran actress Farida Akhtar Babita, renowned for her contributions to showbiz, with a special mention for her iconic films and collaborations with acclaimed filmmakers. Posthumously recognized musician Ayub Bachchu was praised for his groundbreaking contributions to Bangla rock, while the pioneering rock band Warfaze was acknowledged for shaping the country’s rock music scene.

Folk singer Islam Uddin Palakar and noted dancer Arthy Ahmed were also recognized for their contributions to Bangladeshi culture, along with celebrated sculptor Tejosh Haldar Josh for his innovative works in sculpture.

The event concluded with a message of appreciation for the awardees and a vision for the continued prosperity and cultural richness of Bangladesh.
