India’s former cricketers Mohammad Kaif and Piyush Chawla have expressed keen interest in the swift advancement of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who celebrated his 15th birthday recently, into India’s Twenty20 squad. Sooryavanshi made headlines with his remarkable performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL), including a stunning debut season where he started off with a six on his first ball and later smashed a hundred off 35 balls in a different match.
Following his exceptional display that earned him the player of the tournament title in India’s Under-19 World Cup win earlier this year, Sooryavanshi continued to impress by scoring a quick half-century off 15 balls to lead Rajasthan Royals to victory against Chennai Super Kings. Former Indian batsman Kaif shared his evolving perspective on Sooryavanshi’s potential, highlighting the youngster’s ability to entertain and deliver match-winning performances.
Former spinner Chawla supported the idea of fast-tracking Sooryavanshi, citing his consistent run-scoring ability in various competitions over the past year. Another ex-Indian cricketer, Ambati Rayudu, praised Sooryavanshi’s talent and predicted a bright future for him in Indian cricket, although acknowledging the challenge of breaking into a T20 squad that recently secured the World Cup title.
Rayudu emphasized the competitive nature of the Indian team and the difficulty of displacing established players from the squad, given the team’s success and strategic planning for upcoming ICC competitions. Despite the hurdles, the cricketing fraternity remains optimistic about Sooryavanshi’s potential impact on the national team in the future.
