Allegations of Smear Campaign Against State Minister Mir Shahe Alam

-

Recent allegations have emerged against State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Mir Shahe Alam, accusing him of involvement in bribery. The State Minister has dismissed the claims as baseless and politically motivated, asserting that an organized group is attempting to disrupt the government’s development activities through a coordinated smear campaign.

The allegations specifically relate to an alleged “bribery trade” involving the appointment of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dhaka district. However, the claims have been described as entirely fictitious. According to relevant sources, the ministry under the State Minister does not have any official jurisdiction over administrative operations or appointments in Dhaka district. Moreover, Dhaka is neither part of his electoral constituency nor his place of residence.

Since assuming office, Mir Shahe Alam has overseen local government operations across several districts, including Bogura, Sylhet, and Jashore. Through field-level inspections, he has assessed administrative performance and issued show-cause notices in cases of irregularities, along with directives for necessary administrative actions. He also serves as a member of a parliamentary committee focused on the education sector and ensuring adequate facilities for primary school students.

Political analysts note that the timing of these allegations coincides with the Prime Minister’s announcement of a six-month performance evaluation of ministries. It is widely believed that such claims may be intended to undermine administrative confidence and hinder the State Minister’s official duties.

In response, the State Minister stated that the spread of unfounded controversies could impede the development process. He further noted that attempts to damage his personal reputation ultimately aim to cast doubt on the government’s broader achievements.
