Businessman with Political Ties Fatally Shot in Khulna

An individual involved in business activities was fatally shot by unidentified assailants in the Afilgate vicinity of Khulna during the afternoon hours.

The deceased has been identified as Sheikh Sohel, aged 48.

The tragic incident took place around 3:05 pm in close proximity to a garage near a fuel station falling under the jurisdiction of Khan Jahan Ali Police Station.

The Officer-in-Charge, Howladar Shanower Hossain Masum, verified the occurrence, stating that eyewitnesses witnessed the sudden shooting of Sohel by a group of assailants who swiftly fled the scene.

“Regrettably, he passed away immediately,” the OC remarked.

Law enforcement authorities disclosed that Sohel, a businessman, was also affiliated with the Purba Bangla Communist Party, and had faced various legal charges, including two related to homicide.

Further scrutiny revealed the discovery of four discharged bullet casings at the crime scene.

Arrangements are being made to transfer the deceased’s body to the morgue at Khulna Medical College for a post-mortem examination.

Shortly after the incident, members of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) visited the location to collect pertinent evidence. Police have affirmed that a thorough investigation is in progress to apprehend the culprits behind the heinous act.
