The ad hoc committee of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has made a decision to call for nominations from various associations, clubs, and organizations for a total of 192 councilor positions for the upcoming elections. The deadline for submitting nominations has been set for May 16. This resolution was reached during the fourth meeting of the BCB ad hoc committee, which took place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.
According to a press release, the 192 councilors will be selected under three different categories as outlined in Article 12.7 of the BCB Constitution. In the previous BCB elections held on October 6 last year, the final voters’ list included 192 councilors from different categories. These included 71 representatives from regional and district cricket associations, 76 from the club category, and 55 from various other organizations.
However, the previous election faced controversies that led to investigations into potential irregularities. As a result, the Aminul Islam Bulbul-led board was dissolved by the National Sports Council (NSC) on April 7. Subsequently, an 11-member ad hoc committee headed by Tamim Iqbal was appointed to oversee the process.
In addition to the election-related decisions, the BCB will establish a committee to evaluate candidates for 64 district coach positions through theoretical and practical assessments. Furthermore, the committee has approved a three-month contract extension for match referees and umpires, whose terms were set to conclude on April 30.
