Bangladesh’s pop music scene is in a state of constant evolution, with artists pushing boundaries in various genres. Alif Alauddin stands out as a pop artist who remains dedicated to her chosen genre, despite the industry’s emphasis on versatility and change.
“Pop music isn’t just a style I dabble in; it’s a fundamental part of who I am,” Alif expressed when discussing her place in the dynamic music landscape. Many artists, particularly women, face pressure to diversify their music to avoid being labeled as predictable. Instead of conforming to every new trend, Alif prefers to grow organically at her own pace.
This steadfast approach is evident in her recent project, the 2025 remix of “Bondhu Tin Din,” which was actually conceptualized almost a decade ago. Alif and her husband, Kazi Faisal Ahmed, first reimagined the song in 2016 while her father, the late maestro Alauddin Ali, was still alive.
“We aimed to breathe new life into the song while respecting its essence,” Alif reminisced. Their goal was not to recreate a hit but to maintain the song’s original spirit.
The positive reception to the remix reaffirmed Alif’s belief that good songs remain timeless, finding new audiences with each iteration.
In a nod to her father’s musical legacy, Alif is collaborating with Fuad Al Muqtadir on a fresh interpretation of one of Alauddin Ali’s patriotic anthems. Anticipation is high for this project, with Alif expressing optimism about the fusion of traditional and contemporary elements.
Her upcoming fourth solo album, set for release post-Eid, marks a significant milestone following a kidney transplant. The album, influenced by her healing journey, features two tribute tracks dedicated to her parents and other music legends. Alif’s health struggles have instilled a new level of honesty in her music, allowing her to explore diverse styles and create from a place of authenticity.
Reflecting on her roots, Alif revisited “Tumi Chole Gecho,” a song originally performed by her mother and composed by her father. The reinterpretation by Ahmed preserves the song’s emotional depth while infusing it with modern sounds.
Aside from her solo endeavors, Alif’s band Pentagon is gearing up to release an EP around Eid-ul-Azha, alongside her own show and other music projects. In addition to her music career, she plays a pivotal role in the Bangladesh Lyricist, Composers & Performers Society (BLCPS), focusing on artist royalty collection and rights management to address long-standing industry challenges.
Looking forward, Alif’s primary focus is maintaining good health to continue pursuing her passion for music. She remains committed to her creative vision, aiming to bring at least seventy percent of her ideas to fruition as a testament to her dedication and artistry.
