Amid rising tensions in the Gulf region following military actions by the US and Israel against Iran, a Bangladeshi man lost his life in Bahrain today due to debris from a missile interception hitting an industrial area.
The deceased, identified as SM Tareq and hailing from Azimpur in Chattogram district, was fatally struck in the Salman Industrial Area, as confirmed by Bangladeshi embassy officials. Additionally, two other Bangladeshi individuals sustained injuries in the same incident and are currently receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital.
According to Rais Hasan Sarower, the Bangladeshi ambassador to Bahrain, the fatal episode unfolded when fragments from an intercepted missile scattered in the industrial vicinity. The embassy is actively engaged with Tareq’s family and closely monitoring the recovery progress of the injured victims.
Although most Bangladeshi nationals in Bahrain are safe, the security situation remains uncertain, noted the ambassador. He highlighted the sporadic nature of drone and missile activities, making it challenging to foresee potential risks, leading many expatriates to exercise caution and remain indoors.
This tragedy occurs in the midst of escalating regional turmoil triggered by retaliatory actions from Iran following recent US and Israeli military strikes. Notably, a Bangladeshi citizen lost his life in the UAE during Iranian missile attacks, which also resulted in casualties among individuals from Pakistan and Nepal, with numerous others sustaining injuries.
In response, the Bangladesh embassy in the UAE, represented by Arman Ullah Chowdhury, is closely monitoring updates from UAE authorities regarding the situation. Furthermore, incidents of drone attacks near Kuwait International Airport affected four Bangladeshi expatriates, causing injuries due to debris from intercepted drones.
The affected Bangladeshi nationals, including Aminul Islam, Rakibul Islam, Masudur Rahman, and Dulal Miah, are receiving necessary assistance, with Bangladeshi officials maintaining communication with local authorities in the impacted nations.
As tensions persist in the Gulf region, the Bangladeshi government advises its citizens to exercise caution, prioritize safety measures, and limit outdoor activities whenever feasible.
