The Norwegian Ambassador to Bangladesh, HÃ¥kon Arald Gulbrandsen, showed keen interest in renewable energy, offshore exploration, and green investment opportunities in Bangladesh during a recent meeting with Iqbal Hassan Mahmood, the Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources. Emphasizing Norway’s commitment to deepening ties with Bangladesh, the ambassador highlighted areas of potential collaboration in trade, investment, and technical cooperation, specifically in offshore renewable energy and green technology sectors.
The envoy also expressed Norway’s eagerness to explore additional avenues for cooperation and enhance bilateral relations between the two countries. In response, Minister Mahmood requested technical and financial support from the Norwegian government to enhance transparency, increase efficiency in the power sector, and reduce system losses. Bangladesh welcomed greater involvement from Nordic countries in meeting its renewable energy goals and bolstering energy security.
The meeting delved into potential areas for collaboration, including technology transfer, technical training, and financial partnerships aligned with Bangladesh’s renewable energy roadmap. Discussions also touched upon Norway’s active role in Bangladesh’s transition to clean energy, such as participation in offshore bidding and investments in renewable energy and solar power sectors.
Accompanying the ambassador were Alexander Falck-Bilden, Deputy Head of Mission at the Norwegian embassy, and Sayeed Muntasir Bayzid, Economic and Trade Adviser. The meeting, attended by Md Ziaul Haque, Secretary of the Energy Division, and other officials from both ministries and the Norwegian embassy, highlighted the shared commitment to advancing sustainable energy practices and strengthening cooperation between Norway and Bangladesh.
