The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to extend the contract of chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu by one month. Additionally, the board will be advertising to fill two vacant positions within the national selection panel.
Lipu, who took over from Minhajul Abedin Nannu in February 2024, was initially set to complete his term by the end of February. However, he expressed his disinterest in continuing under a long-term agreement to the board via email.
After a meeting of the board of directors, Amzad Hossain, the chairman of the BCB media committee, confirmed the extension. He stated, “His contract was due to end this February, but we have extended it until March. The cricket operations department will determine the next steps.”
In addition to the chief selector role, there is another vacancy in the selection panel that needs to be filled. Amzad mentioned that advertisements will be published in newspapers to seek suitable candidates for these positions.
Previously, the selection panel under Lipu’s leadership included Abdur Razzak and Hannan Sarkar. Hannan resigned in February the previous year to focus on his coaching career, leaving one position vacant. Hasibul Hossain Shanto was appointed as a selector in September, but Razzak later resigned from his role of over four years to participate in the BCB elections. He was elected unopposed as a board director representing the Khulna division.
