“Bangladesh Cricket Board Elections: Eight Councilors Secure Director Positions Unopposed”

-

At least eight councilors have secured positions as directors in the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board elections without facing any opposition. The Election Commission finalized the list of candidates on Monday, revealing that three councilors withdrew their nominations on the last day.

Minhajul Abedin Nannu and Moyeen Uddin Chowdhury were elected unopposed from Chattogram Division in Category-1 after Shoriful Islam Apu withdrew his nomination. Additionally, Sayed Bin Zaman and S M Abdullah Al Fuad won uncontested seats from Dhaka Division. Mir Shakrul Alam Simanto (Rajshahi), Mirza Faisal Amin (Rangpur), Abdul Qaiyum Chowdhury (Sylhet) from Category-1, and Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir from Category-3 were also elected without opposition.

Jashim Uddin Khan Khoshru’s nomination for the Dhaka Division was rejected by the EC, and his appeal was dismissed. Elections are set to take place in Khulna and Barishal divisions due to the surplus of candidates. In Khulna, Mohammad Shafiqul Alam, Shantanu Islam, and Mohammad Abdus Salam will compete for two seats, while in Barishal, Mohammad Mizanur Rahman and Mohammad Muntasir Alam Chowdhury will vie for one spot.

Furthermore, elections in the club category will proceed despite the withdrawals of Mohammad Lutfor Rahman from Legends of Rupganj and Mohammad Mahmud-ur-Rahman from Old DOHS Sports Club. Sixteen councilors are in the running for 12 positions, including familiar names like Tamim Iqbal and Major Imroze Ahmed (Retd).

Foysal, Amzad, and Shanian were part of the previous BCB board led by Aminul Islam Bulbul, which was dissolved on April 7. All three had resigned before the dissolution citing personal reasons.
