Massimiliano Allegri expressed on Saturday that he has no interest in taking up the vacant Italy national team coaching position, affirming his commitment to remaining with AC Milan, the illustrious seven-time European champions.
Following the resignation of Gennaro Gattuso due to Italy’s failure to qualify for the World Cup for the third consecutive time, Allegri was promptly mentioned, alongside Napoli’s coach Antonio Conte, as a top contender for the role.
Speaking to journalists before Milan’s upcoming Serie A match in Verona on Sunday, Allegri emphasized his career track record, stating, “Consistent job changes are not in my nature.”
At 58, Allegri initially managed Milan from 2010 to 2014 before achieving significant success during his five-year tenure at Juventus. He later returned to Juventus in 2021 and was dismissed three years later.
“I am inclined towards working within a structured club environment that operates like a business,” Allegri added. “Seeing continuous improvement is essential to me. While winning the Champions League within two years may be challenging, the ambition to strive for it is crucial to avoid dwelling in the past.”
Expressing optimism about the future, Allegri disclosed ongoing discussions with the club’s management regarding summer transfers, indicating a collaborative approach to enhancing the team.
Having assumed the helm of Milan last season, Allegri has propelled the team to third place in Serie A, positioning them well for Champions League qualification. Despite a recent dip in form, with three defeats in the last four matches, Milan remains five points clear of fifth-placed Como.
